The SEC announced its weekly honors for swimming and diving on Tuesday. Florida freshman Mabel Zavaros earned SEC Swimmer of the Week, while Vanessa Pearl earned the SEC Freshman of the Week.

In just the opening weekend of competition, Zavaros won all six of the individual events. She added a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay at Miami, as the Gators started the season with a 3-0 record.

Zavaros currently ranks second in the nation the 400-yard individual medley with a swim of 4:16.37. Her time of 1:56.88 in the 200-yard backstroke is the third-fastest time in the country this season. She holds the No. 6-ranked time in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.75. Zavaros has the nation’s 10th-fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 54.62. All of her times were personal bests. She ranks first in the SEC in the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard backstroke, 400-yard individual medley, and the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.55). She posted B cuts in the 400-yard individual medley, 200-yard butterfly, and 200-yard backstroke.

Pearl opened her collegiate career with four individual event wins and was on three relays that won first place.

Pearl holds the nation’s fourth-fastest times in the 200-yard breaststroke with a swim of 2:14.06 and in the 200-yard individual medley. Her time of 2:01.88 in the 200-yard butterfly is the fifth-fastest time in the SEC, second fastest by a freshman in the conference. Pearl notched an NCAA B cut time in the 200-yard individual medley. She currently sits with the 16th-fastest time in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:03.13. She helped Florida win the 200-yard medley relay at three different meets, swimming the breaststroke for all three.

The Gators are scheduled to return to the pool on Thursday, Oct. 11, for a conference matchup against LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
