Florida State sophomore Cameron Thatcher was awarded the ACC Male Diver of the Week on Tuesday by the league office following his performance at the Georgia Tech Invite.

Thatcher helped the 18th-ranked Seminoles win the meet for the first time since 2012 over tough competition that included No. 13 Alabama, Georgia Tech, No. 19 South Carolina and East Carolina.

“Cam has come an unbelievable distance in a short period of time,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “He is a great example of what patience and emotional self-control can do for an athlete who is committed to the process. He’s been awesome to work with and I’m excited to see where he goes form here.”

The Toledo, Ohio native was victorious on 1-meter with a score of 384.90, which was over 20 points higher than the second place finisher, who was rookie Josh Davidson (363.05).

During his final round, Thatcher saw scores of 7.50 or higher on each dive. He received marks as high as 9.0 including on his best dive, which was a reverse 2 ½ somersault tuck that went for 75 total points.  Thatcher also qualified in first out of prelims with a total of 334.90.

In addition to 1-meter, Thatcher finished fourth on 3-meter with a total of 349.20 and was also fifth on platform, scoring 311.10.

Thatcher joins Davidson and senior Tyler Roberge as the third diver to win the honor this season.
