ATHENS, Ga. –The Florida women’s swimming & diving team finished day two of the 2019 SEC Championships in third place with 388.5 points on Wednesday at the Gabrielsen Natatorium. Vanessa Pearl stamped her name into the record books when she set the fastest time in Florida history in the 200 IM.
Leah Braswell finished the 500 Free A Final in second place as she recorded a personal-best time of 4:36.81. Braswell has the fourth-best time in program history. Taylor Ault set a career-best swim of 4:39.93 and finished sixth. In the B Final, Savanna Faulconer clocked a season-best mark of 4:42.31 and placed 14th overall. Georgia Darwent finished in 21st place after her time of 4:46.19. Tori Bindi added a 24th-place finish with a swim of 4:48.77.
In the 200 IM A Final, Pearl recorded the fastest time in Florida history with her career-best swim of 1:53.98 and finished fourth. Pearl’s time broke Elizabeth Beisel’s record time of 1:54.26 set in 2014. Kelly Fertel added valuable points with her 10th-place finish and her career-best time of 1:55.46 in the B Final. Fertel is ranked fourth in UF history. Hannah Burns clocked a personal-best swim of 1:56.54 and placed 13th. Burns moved into the No. 8 spot in program history.
Emma Ball placed eighth, 16th overall, in the 50 Free B Final with an effort of 22.73. Bella Garofalo finished tied for second in the C Final and placed 18th with her career-best swim of 22.48. Garofalo moved into a tie for the seventh-best time in UF history.
The 200 Free Relay team of Sherridon Dressel, Ball, Garofalo, and Kelsey Dambacher placed sixth with a group effort of 1:29.29.
In the 500 Free prelims, Braswell recorded the fastest swim with a mark of 4:38.13. Ault earned a spot in the A Final with a personal-best swim of 4:40.84. Faulconer swam a season-best 4:43.40 and placed 16th as she claimed a B Final spot. With a career-best effort of 4:46.15, Darwent placed 21st and notched a C Final spot. Bindi clocked a personal-best swim of 4:46.39 and picked up a C Final spot with her 22nd–place finish. Mabel Zavaros finished in 28th with her mark of 4:47.34.
Pearl finished with the fourth-best swim in the 200 IM prelims and clocked a time of 1:55.18 to improve on her No. 3 ranked swim in UF history. With a time of 1:56.19, Fertel earned a spot in the B Final as she placed ninth. Hannah Burns notched a swim of 1:57.07. Sydney Sell posted an effort of 2:00.41 and finished in 32nd. Adrianna DeBoer notched a 57th-place finish with a time of 2:04.37. Layla Black achieved a personal-best time of 2:04.75 and placed 60th.
Ball earned a spot in the B Final after she notched a personal-best time of 22.52 in the 50 Free prelims and placed 16th. Garofalo posted the 21st-best time in prelims with an effort of 22.60 to secure a spot in the C Final. Dambacher recorded a season-best time of 22.73 and placed 26th.
Day three begins with the 400 IM prelims at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday.
