Sarasota Shark Parker Schmidt gave his verbal commitment to the University of Eastern Illinois in Charleston. Schmidt announced his commitment on Instagram, where he wrote,

“ Very excited to announce my verbal commitment to advance my academic and athletic career at Eastern Illinois University, i look forward to joining my new coach and team mates as a panther! #EIU”

Schmidt’s attends Riverview Rams High School, the reigning past 4 year men’s 4A State Champs! Schmidt supported his team to victory throughout his high school career by being a state finalist.

Schmidt is a mid­dle-distance breastroker. He also swims club throughout the year with the Sarasota YMCA Sharks, a gold medal swim club. Schmidt has been swimming there since he was 12. Under head coach Brent Arckey, Schmidt has attended multiple championship meets and finaled in his breaststroke events. Schmidt is a valuable part of both of his teams.

Schmidt’s success has lead him to choose a Division 1 swimming school to further his athletic career. He specifically chose Eastern Illinois, which is in the top 40 university in the midwest, to further his education.

Schmidt is quoted saying, “ I chose Eastern Illinois because of the great team and academic opportunity I will have there.”
