This past week, Madison Lichtig, a senior at the Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens, FL gave her verbal commitment to Division 1 University of North Florida up in Jacksonville. She’ll be joining their 2019 recruiting class.
Lichtig is a North Palm Beach native, and swims for North Palm Beach Swim Club under coaches Alf Aguirre and Dick Cavanah. Cavanah is also the longtime coach of the Benjamin Buccaneers, where Lichtig has been a star swimmer.
Lichtig is a three-year 1A FHSAA state finalist, where she helped lead Benjamin to a top-15 finish the past two years. She is a two-time recipient of the Sun Sentinel Honorable Mention, and holds the school record in the 100 breaststroke.
Since starting swim at age 6, Lichtig has been invaluable on her club team. She has helped lead North Palm Beach to top finishes at FGC Senior Championships, Southern Zone Sectionals, and the annual Winter Championships meet down in Plantation.
By committing to the Ospreys’ class of 2023, Lichtig will be joining club teammates Sydney Groth and Francesca Vandersluis, who have both made a big impact for the Ospreys in past seasons. She announced her verbal commitment on her Instagram, where she wrote,
“Very excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of North Florida! Thank you to my family, coaches, and friends for getting me where I am today! Go Ospreys #SWOOP”
After visiting in early September, Lichtig fell in love with the school and the team. As an avid fisher and beachgoer, the combination of location and athletics was a major draw. The team’s family culture, however, was what pulled her in. Congratulations to Lichtig on her decision to further her swimming career!
