Kelly Fertel has been selected to Maccabi USA’s Open Swimming Team for the 20th World Maccabiah Games in July, as announced by Maccabi USA this week.
Fertel will join 24 other swimmers in representing Team USA. The Maccabiah Games, which will take place July 4-18 in Israel, bring together 10,000 Jewish athletes representing 80 countries and competing in 43 sports. It’s the third-largest international sporting event in the world after the Olympics and Pan American Games.
Fertel, who ended her freshman season last month, appeared in both the NCAA and SEC Championships for Florida. Individually at NCAAs, she placed 29th in the 400 IM, 43rd in the 200 IM and 52nd in the 200 breast. She also qualified for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in both the 200m and 400m IM, finishing 69th and 57th respectively.
