CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the sixth time this season and second-consecutive week, the FGCU swimming and diving team swept the CCSA weekly awards as Elise Haan was named the Women’s Swimmer of the Week and Ashley Wright was named the Women’s Diver of the Week following their performances in Saturday’s double-dual meet, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon.

“The girls keep going out and competing hard, and they keep receiving the recognition they deserve for their efforts,” said FGCU head coach Neal Studd. “The individual accolades are rewarding, but we’re in search of a higher goal in winning that seventh conference championship and performing well at the NCAA Championships.”

Haan (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS), who is receiving this award for the fourth time this season, finished first in four events at the double-dual meet versus in-state rivals Miami and FAU. The freshman won both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes, marking her 11th and 12th individual wins of the season in only her seventh week of competition, and was also a member of the first-place 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays.

Haan touched the pads in 55.10 seconds and defeated the field by more than a second in the 100-yard backstroke, improving her record to a perfect 7-0 in the event this season. With her win in the 200-yard backstroke during which she clocked a time of 2:00.67, Haan finished first in both backstroke events for the fourth time this season.

Additionally, the Naples native got the Green and Blue out to an early lead in the 200-yard medley relay as she swam a 50-yard backstroke split of 25.76 seconds, nearly a second faster than the closest competitor in teammate Fanny Teijonsalo (Espoo, Finland/Makelanrinteen Lukio). FGCU held the lead throughout the race and touched the pads in 1:44.01, finishing ahead of the Eagles ‘B’ team in the event. To cap off the meet, Haan swam a final-leg, 50-yard freestyle split of 23.42 seconds as FGCU finished the race in 1:34.95, nearly a second and a half clear of Miami’s second-place quartet.

Wright (Port Saint Lucie, Fla./Indian River/Lincoln Park Academy) earned the Diver of the Week award for the sixth time this season and second-straight week after turning in another personal-best performance off the three-meter boards and finishing third in both the low and high dives in Boca Raton on Saturday. With a pair of third-place finishes, she has now finished inside the top-three in six of 12 dives this season.

The Port Saint Lucie native’s mark of 284.55 off the three-meter board was not only a season-best effort by nearly 10 points, but also ranks as the fourth-best score in FGCU history. Additionally, her score of 273.15 in the one-meter dive was her second best this season and ranks as the fifth-best effort in program history. Wright now owns six of FGCU’s all-time top-10 scores in the pair of events in her first season with the Green and Blue.

The pair of awards mark the 14th time this season the Eagles have received CCSA weekly distinction. The following is a list of FGCU student-athletes who have also won the award this season:
