Florida State diver Dylan Grisell capped off his senior season with a selection to the 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District Men’s At-Large First Team.  The list was announced by CoSIDA on Thursday.

The Toronto, Ont. native was one of 10 student-athletes representing district four for NCAA Division I and it was his second straight nod to the team.

The honor recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combine performances athletically and in the classroom. The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight districts across the United States and Canada. District four covers institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Puerto Rico.

As a biological science major, Grisell captured his third career All-ACC Academic Team nod in 2017. He finished ninth on platform at the NCAA Championships, becoming the first Seminole in history to capture back-to-back All-America honors in the event, following a seventh place finish in 2016. He also won silver on platform at the 2017 ACC Championships, garnering All-ACC honors.

“Science has always been a passion of mine,” Grisell said. “I’ve always put school first and it’s very important to me. I am very thankful to Florida State for providing me with the opportunities to meet my goals in diving and in the classroom. Academically, this year was the toughest yet and I was able to pull through with the support from my team and coaches and FSU.”

Currently, Grisell is preparing to take the MCAT exam and plans to attend medical school in either the United States or Canada.

Grisell will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team honorees will be decided later this month.
