Florida Swim Network intern Hanna Barton has committed to University of South Carolina. She’ll be joining the Gamecock’s 2019 recruiting class.
Besides being one of our 2018 interns, Barton swims for Sunlake High School under coaches Lorin Maceonald and Shelly Koutras. This past year, Barton helped her team place 4th overall at the 3A State Championships. Barton was a member of Sunlake’s champion 4×50 free relay, as well as its bronze medley relay. She swam 50 free and 100 fly, placing 19th and 21st respectively at the meet.
Since starting swimming only two years ago, Barton has been busy. This past summer, she posted best times in all the events she swam at Florida Swimming’s Summer Long Course Championships, making her Futures cut in the 100 fly. Barton competed at Futures in North Carolina, where she posted another best time in her 50 free. She swims for Blue Wave Swimming under coach Rich Rogers.
When Barton made her official visit to South Carolina, she “could see [herself] calling South Carolina home.” The swimmers, the coaches, and the goals the team have exceeded her expectations, and the opportunity to attend a school with such a fantastic atmosphere was one she couldn’t pass up. When asked what she is most proud of, Barton replied
“I am most proud of how much I have grown in this sport, both as a swimmer and a person. I started swimming less than two years ago and I never thought I would be where I am now. I have learned so much and have met so many amazing people who have helped me make great memories.”
Everyone here at FSN wants to congratulate Hanna and wish her luck as a Gamecock!
