Saturday, June 13th — Nearly 900 swimmers raced along world famous 7-mile beach in Grand Cayman in the 23rd Annual Flowers Sea Swim. Amongst the field were 8 Olympians and a few of USA top open water swimmers.
All registration was generously donated to Grand Cayman Special Olympics. Next month the island nation will be sending a team of 50 (37 athletes plus their coaching staff) to compete in the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.
In the open water swim, several racers contended for the win. For the men, Jordan Willimovsky and Chip Peterson battled it out with less than a second separating them. Both went under 17 minutes, with Jordan setting a new course record.
In the women’s race, Stephanie Peacock won the female division in 18:00 and was 5th overall.
