FIU’s Randy Horner to Coach Botswana’s Olympic Swimmers

MIAMI (July 15, 2016) – FIU’s Randy Horner will serves as coach for Botswana’s swimmers in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro (Aug. 5-21), announced on Friday.

Horner will coach FIU’s Naomi Ruele in the 50m free and Nova Southeastern’s David Van Der Colff in the 100 back next month in Rio.

“It’s an honor to be selected to coach Naomi and David at the Olympics,” Horner said. “It’s a privilege to be a part of something these athletes have worked so hard for.”

Horner guided FIU to its second-straight conference title this past season, scoring the second-most points in C-USA Championship history. The Panthers claimed 15 of the 21 total titles during the four-day championships en route to a 954-point result – the most-decisive victory in C-USA Championships history.

In all, FIU won 28 medals, including 15 gold, while setting seven school records as Horner was named the C-USA Coach of the Year – his third such award in the last six years.
