The 40th FSPA Invite in Stuart finished last Saturday, and what a meet it was. Though poor weather loomed throughout the day, the performances were anything but gloomy.

From the moment the meet started it was bound to be an exciting one – dozens of teams from across Florida descended on Stuart for the biggest in-season meet this year. With Doral Prep, Seminole, Oviedo, and Montverde all in a tight race for first, prelim performances were unbelievable. Finals quickly stacked up to be too close to call, building tensions even more for the evening.

The afternoon proved to be everything it was expected to be and more, with swimmers going best times in-season, with Lucas De Oliveira (Montverde, 46.75 100FR), Wesley Kephart (Seminole, 1:45.53 200FR), and Jeremy Rockaway (Oviedo, 1:55.51 200IM) leading their Men’s teams, and Kaitlyn Schorr (Montverde, 23.27 50FR), Abigail Gibbons (Oviedo, 54.96 100FL) and Chade Nercisio (51.57 100FR) all leading their Women’s teams.

In the end, after a close and hard-fought meet, Oviedo won the Women’s and Overall competitions, and Seminole won the Men’s race. Whether this meet is a true indication of what the State Championships will look like, we can’t tell until November rolls around. We can, however, say without a doubt that if the State Series looks anything like the FSPA Invite, we’re bound for another close race in Stuart.
