2015 10K USA Swimming National Championships Friday
Women’s Race 8:00 am
Men’s Race 10:30 am
April 23, 2015 – Miromar Lakes, FL—Tomorrow starts the USA Swimming Open Water Swimming Championships in Miromar Lakes, FL and it is turning out to be a very speedy one with the turnout for the 10K, Crippen Mile and 5K events.
The Women’s 10K
The women’s 10K, which is an L-shaped course, should be a fast one with good water temps and great weather. Some of the outstanding competitors here but not limited to are Haley Anderson, Emily Brunemann (3rd ’14), Christine Jennings (2nd ’14), Summer Finke, Becca Mann, Stephanie Peacock, Isabella Rongione, Ashley Twichell (1st ’14), and Lindsay Vrooman. With last year’s Top 3, we do expect fireworks.
Coach Sid Cassidy, former USA National Coach for Open Water, talked about the development of Open Water Swimming: “I am extremely proud of the way open water has grown in the state of Florida, in the United States, and around the world. It is truly one of the most exciting events in all of Aquatics simply because anything can and almost always does happen.”
The Men’s 10K
The men’s 10K is just as competitive with club swimmers, collegiate swimmers and pros laced throughout the event. Alex Meyer (1st ’14), leads the group of distance swimmers but not limited to Arthur Frayler (11th ’14), Andew Gemmell, Chip Peterson (6th ’14), Joey Pedrazza (7th ’14), Ryan Feeley, David Heron, and Blake Manganiello.
Cassidy continued to discuss the importance of preparing for a long race like this, “Most athletes prepare very similar to what distance swimmers do in getting ready for the 1650/1500. They may ramp it up a little bit more, and of course many like to include open water training events in their preparation. The most important thing to prepare for this kind of race is your mind.”
Stay tuned, more to come.
